RPA / Drone Pilot. Distance learning modality Distance Learning Course

This course focuses on teaching an RPA pilot or operator the basic knowledge for the correct development of its assignments. The course has been tailored based on the AESA syllabus As stated on its Acceptable Means of Compliance and Spanish legislation which establishes the minimum requisites of qualification for RPA pilots.

Upon finishing this course the student will then comply with Subpart 5c of the aforementioned law (requisites for Remotely Piloted Aircraft under 25kg civil pilots).

Course objectives

Adequately train Unmanned Aircraft pilots so they can effectively perform their duties in a controlled and safe environment, and completely aware of the airspace they are operating in.

To obtain the Basic and Advanced certificates for Remotely Piloted Aircraft in such a way that their knowledge is recorded and can be evidenced through the Spanish Civil Aviation Authorities, AESA.

Instructors

The instructors that lecture this course have several years of experience in both ground and flight training, and are actually instructors in Panamedia ATO (E-ATO-022).

Who is this course directed to

Anyone who wishes to become Drone Pilot and any Drone Operators or RPAS Manufacturers (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems).

 

In case of not reaching the minimum number of students required, PANAMEDIA reserves the right to cancel the course, returning the full amount paid. The place in the course is only confirmed once the payment is made. It is not possible to reserve a place.

  • If desired, the training can be continued with a RPA Multirrotor Practical Training Course.
  • Its duration and price will vary depending on the candidate’s previous experience (see below).

  • Regulations. Appliable aspects of the “Ley de Seguridad Aérea y RCA”, AESA the Spanish Civil Aviation Authorities, RPAS Law and regulations, RD 1999/2009 about RPAS air shows and demonstrations, The RPAS pilot, Insurance, Dangerous goodds Transport, Accident and Incident reporting.
  • Aircraft knowledge. RPAS classification, Airworthiness, Registration, Aircraft airframe, Powerplant, On board Instrumentation, Aircraft control systems, Altitude control safety sistems, Return Home system.
  • Aircraft Performance.  Flight profile, Aircraft Performance, Planning (type of flight, meteorology, zone map studying), Risk assessment.
  • Meteorology. Wind, Clouds, Fronts, Turbulence, Diurnal and Nocturnal visibility, Windshear, Meteorological information (low level charts, METAR, TAF, SPECI).
  • Map reading and Navigation. The Earth (longitude and latitude, positioning), Aeronautical charts (use and interpretation), Dead Reckoning Navigation, Distance and Altitude limitations (VLOS, EVLOS, BLOS), GPS (use and limitations).
  • Operational Procedures. The Operations Manual, Operational scenery, Limitations according to the airspace in which to fly, Night flight, Operative limitations (control from moving vehicle, night flight, control transfer between stations, number of aircraft that can be flown at the same time), Limitations established by the “Ley 1/1982 de protección del honor e intimidad personal”, Flight equipment composition, Operation monitoring, Accident avoidance.
  • Communications. Radio transmission general principles, Emmiters, Receivers and aerials, Use of the radio, Radiocommunications International Alphabet, Applicable aeronautical phraseology.
  • RPAS human factors.  Spatial awareness, Communication, Work load and human performance, Team work and leadership, Health factors that may affect RPAS piloting.
  • ATC knowledge. Airspace Classification, Aeronautical information and documents (NOTAM and AIP), ATS organisation in Spain, Controlled, Uncontrolled and Segregated Airspace, ATC instruccions.
  • Advanced Communications. Use of the Radioelectric spectrum and frecuencies, Communications with ATC.

F.A.Q.
What kind of drones can I fly with this certificate?

The theoretical part of the course allows drones flying up to 25kg in weight. It is common for fixed wing, helicopter and multi-rotor categories.

Once the theoretical part is completed you will start the practical part in the type of aircraft you want to fly (fixed wing, helicopter or multi-rotor).

Within each of these categories there are three subcategories divided by the weight of the aircraft.

RPAs up to 5kg.
RPAs between 5 and 15kg
RPAS between 15 and 25kg

The practical certificate obtained will be specific to the category of RPA with which the student has been examined.

Note1: Doing the exam with a dron of higher category will not enable you to fly  drones with a lower weight.

Note2: In Panamedia we practice with a dron in the <5kg category, which is where most drones are used today. In case the student has a dron of superior category or wants to obtain these certificates, contact the administration staff.

 

Can I do the practical classes with my RPA? Under what conditions? Does it have an extra cost?

If you have a RPA we recommend you to use it during the practice for several reasons. On the one hand, the practical certificate issued will be of the same category as your dron and also when you begin to use it in a professional way and you will have practice in its handling.

In order to obtain the highest security and tranquility in the learning, the flight practices are realized in:Mallorca: Campo de Aeromodelismo Sa Tanca des Vicari, Algaida.

How long does each practical class last?

Each practice has a duration of 1 : 15h divided into three flights of 15 minutes

 

Practical training course for RPA Multirotor

 

Theory

 

  • General knowledge of the aircraft and its systems.

Practical part

 

  1. 1. Student without any experience: Simulator, dual command with two broadcasting stations.
  1. 2. Student with average experience: knows how to fly but without knowledge, double command with an apparatus of the school or own until the student masters the maneuvers.
  1. 3. Student with proven experience, aeromodelist or pilot RPA:
    Pre-exam phase, requires training according to experience.
    Pre flight , flight and post flight phases, checklists.

Flights

Approximately 3/4 flights of about 10 minutes per hour

Rates

Required instruction according to the following list + Exam Fee (50 €):

  1. 1 .Student without any experience: 600 €
  1. 2. Student with medium experience: 300 €
  1. 3. Student with experience: 100 €

Notes:

  • These prices apply for the full course (theoretical + practical) or for students of Panamedia. For all other cases, an increase of 12% will be applied.
  • The experience will be evaluated by the instructor / examiner.
